I am 66 years old, married and have four children ranging in age from 47-23. I have been strength training for more than half my life, starting at the age of 31. I fell in love with everything about lifting. Looking and feeling fit. I loved how strength training had transformed me. My arms and legs were toned and strong. I felt and looked different. Being strong and fit boosted my confidence. Training wasn’t a hobby, it was a lifestyle.
When I hit 62 I experienced what I like to refer to as my “fitness epiphany“. I became aware of the alarming fact that we lose 5-7 pounds of muscle every decade after the age of 20. By the time we hit menopause our risk for fractures, hip and knee replacements and age-related illness and injury increases dramatically.
Suddenly, strength training took on a new, more vital meaning for me. I began to lift with heavy weights and increase my dietary protein intake in an effort to slow down and possibly prevent further muscle loss. But here’s the best part: one day I looked in the mirror and noticed that I had actually added new muscle! Yes, I was growing older but I was growing stronger and healthier too!
I firmly believe it’s possible to turn the tide on aging and reverse the debilitating effects of sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass) and dynapenia (loss of muscle strength) through consistent training and proper nutrition. My goal as a fitness coach is to help you become strong and fit for life. So if you’re as passionate as I am about living the rest of your life as the best of your life, join my team today!
